An abundance has been written in the press not long ago regarding the bingo industry struggling as a consequence of the cigarette ban in England. Conditions have grown so bad that in Scotland the Bingo industry has asked for big aid to assist in keeping the industry from going bankrupt. But will the online version of this classic game provide a reprieve, or might it never compare to its bricks and mortar opposite?
Bingo has been an age old game historically enjoyed by the "blue rinse" generation. In any case the game of late had experienced a recent comeback in appeal with younger members of society opting to visit the bingo halls in place of the clubs on a weekend. All this is about to get flipped on its head with the introduction of the anti smoking law around UK.
Players will no longer be able to puff on cigarettes at the same time marking numbers. From the summer of 2007 all public locations will no longer be permitted to allow cigarettes in their venues and this includes Bingo halls, one of the most common places where many people like to smoke.
The results of the cigarette ban can already be seen in Scotland where smoking is already banned in the bingo halls. Players have plunged and the industry is literally struggling for to stay alive. But where did the players go? Certainly they haven’t forgotten this familiar game?
The answer is on the net. People are now realizing that they can enjoy bingo from their computer at the same time enjoying a cocktail and fag and in the end, have a chance at monstrous cash rewards. This is a recent development and has happened bordering on perfect with the ban on smoking.
Of course playing on the web is unlikely to replace the social part of going over to the bingo hall, but for a group of men and women the rules have left many bingo players with no alternative.
