A lot has been reported in the press just a while ago regarding the bingo industry being hurt as a consequence of the cigarette ban in the United Kingdom. Conditions have grown so awful that in Scotland the Bingo industry has demanded huge tax breaks to help keep the businesses afloat. However does the web variation of this traditional game offer a lifeline, or will it never compare to its real life equivalent?

Bingo has been an age old game usually played by the "blue haired" generation. For all that the game recently had experienced a recent increase in acceptance with younger men and women deciding to hit the bingo halls instead of the bars on a Friday night. This is all about to get flipped on its head with the introduction of the anti cigarette law all over England and Wales.

No more will enthusiasts be permitted to smoke whilst dabbing numbers. From the summer of 2007 all public places will not be permitted to allow cigarettes in their locations and this includes Bingo halls, which are possibly the most favored places where folks enjoy smoking.

The results of the cigarette ban can already be felt in Scotland where cigarettes are already illegal in the bingo halls. Players have plummeted and the business is beyond a doubt struggling for its life. But where did the players go? Of course they haven’t given up on this classic game?

The answer is on the net. Players realise that they can play bingo using their computer while enjoying a drink and cig and still have a chance at huge prizes. This is a recent anomaly and has happened bordering on perfect with the anti smoking law.

Of course playing online is unlikely to replace the collective portion of heading down to the bingo parlour, but for a demographic of men and women the governing edicts have left a good many bingo players with no choice.
