A lot has been reported in the papers not long ago concerning the bingo industry being hit as a consequence of the anti smoking law in England. Conditions have grown so bad that in Scotland the Bingo industry has asked for huge tax cuts to assist in keeping the industry from going bankrupt. But will the online adaptation of this quintessential game provide a salvation, or will it in no way compare to its land based opposite?
Bingo has been an age old game historically enjoyed by the "blue haired" generation. In any case the game recently had seen a recent increase in appeal with younger people deciding to hit the bingo parlors rather than the clubs on a weekend. All this is about to be destroyed with the enacting of the anti cigarette law all over England and Wales.
Players will no longer be able to puff on cigarettes whilst marking numbers. Starting in the summer of 2007 every public area will not be permitted to allow cigarettes in their venues and this includes Bingo parlors, one of the most favorite locations where many people like to puff on cigarettes.
The results of the anti smoking law can already be looked at in Scotland where cigarettes are already barred in the bingo halls. Numbers have plunged and the business is absolutely fighting for to stay alive. But where did the players go? Obviously they have not deserted this ancient game?
The answer is on the internet. Gamblers know that they can play bingo using their computer while enjoying a beverage and cigarette and still have a chance at massive jackpots. This is a recent development and has timed itself bordering on perfect with the anti smoking law.
Of course playing on the web is unlikely to replace the social part of going over to the bingo parlor, but for a demographic of people the governing edicts have left a lot of bingo players with no alternative.
