Oklahoma has long been interrelated with Bingo. This is because the Indian bands of Oklahoma have provided Bingo sessions for years. Clients from each of the nearby states load up in automobiles and visit Oklahoma to bet on Bingo over the weekends.
The 1988 Indian Gaming Regulatory Act (IGRA) was introduced after a landmark determination by The U.S. Supreme Court the year prior. Since that time, 23 of the 39 Native bands located in Oklahoma have opened gaming halls. The Chickasaw were the first Oklahoma Native tribes to take advantage of the gaming rules, and today run 10 gambling halls of their own. Bingo was the game on which these gambling halls were built on. digital games such as one armed bandits were not approved, due to the fact that they are thought to lead to gambling problems more than bingo.
In recent years, Oklahoma law have altered to allow for large Indian gaming gambling dens. You will now find Indian gambling dens with slot machine games, video poker and black jack tables. Craps and roulette are still not approved in the Indian gambling halls as of yet, although that is simply a matter of time. Nobody can say what having other games in the bingo houses will do for the popularity of bingo.
