A lot has been stated in the press recently about the bingo industry singing the blues as a consequence of the anti cigarette law in Britain. Conditions have become so bad that in Scotland the Bingo industry has requested big aid to assist in keeping the businesses from going bankrupt. However can the web adaptation of this classic game offer a escape, or will it not compare to its land based peer?
Bingo is an classic game usually enjoyed by the "blue haired" generation. In any case the game of late had undergone a recent return in acceptance with younger members of society deciding to visit the bingo parlors instead of the clubs on a Saturday night. This is all about to be reversed with the introduction of the anti cigarette law throughout England and Wales.
No more will players be allowed to puff on cigarettes at the same time marking off their numbers. Beginning in the summer of 2007 all public places will not be permitted to allow cigarettes in their venues and this includes Bingo parlours, which are possibly the most favored places where folks like to smoke.
The outcome of the smoking ban can already be seen in Scotland where smoking is already not allowed in the bingo parlours. Numbers have dropped and the industry is literally struggling for its life. But where did the players go? Certainly they have not abandoned this enduring game?
The answer is on the internet. People realise that they can bet on bingo using their computer at the same time enjoying a drink and smoke and in the end, enjoy monstrous prizes. This is a recent phenomenon and has happened bordering on perfect with the ban on smoking.
Of course playing on the net is unlikely to replace the social portion of going down to the bingo hall, but for a group of people the rules have left a lot of bingo enthusiasts with little option.
