Much has been talked in the press just a while ago concerning the bingo industry being hit because of the anti cigarette law in England. Things have grown so poor that in Scotland the Bingo industry has called for huge tax breaks to assist in keeping the industry alive. However can the internet adaptation of this quintessential game offer a lifeline, or will it not compare to its land based kin?
Bingo has been an enduring game historically enjoyed by the "blue rinse" generation. Although the game recently had undergone a recent comeback in acceptance with younger members of society opting to go to the bingo parlors instead of the bars on a Saturday night. All this is about to get flipped on its head with the enforcement of the cigarette ban across United Kingdom.
Players will no longer be allowed to smoke at the same time dabbing numbers. Beginning in the summer of 2007 every public place will no longer be permitted to allow smoking in their buildings and this includes Bingo parlours, which are possibly the most favorite locations where players enjoy smoking.
The effects of the smoking ban can already be seen in Scotland where cigarettes are already barred in the bingo halls. Profits have plummeted and the business is beyond a doubt struggling for to stay alive. But where did all the players go? Of course they have not abandoned this enduring game?
The answer is on the net. Gamblers are now realizing that they can play bingo from their computer while enjoying a cocktail and cigarette and in the end, have a chance at massive cash rewards. This is a recent phenomenon and has timed itself bordering on perfect with the anti smoking law.
Of course playing on the internet will never replace the communal portion of heading over to the bingo hall, but for a demographic of players the governing edicts have left a good many bingo players with little option.
