A lot has been talked in the press just a while ago about the bingo industry being hit as a result of the anti cigarette law in England. Things have become so bad that in Scotland the Bingo industry has called for big tax cuts to help keep the industry from going bankrupt. But will the net variation of this classic game offer a reprieve, or will it in no way compare to its real life peer?
Bingo is an familiar game generally played by the "blue haired" generation. However the game lately had witnessed a recent resurgence in acceptance with younger men and women deciding to hit the bingo parlors instead of the discos on a weekend. All this is about to be reversed with the enforcement of the cigarette ban throughout Britain.
Players will no longer be allowed to smoke at the same time dabbing numbers. Beginning in the summer of 2007 every public location will not be allowed to permit cigarettes in their buildings and this includes Bingo halls, one of the most popular places where players enjoy smoking.
The effects of the smoking ban can already be observed in Scotland where cigarettes are already banned in the bingo halls. Numbers have plunged and the business is beyond a doubt fighting for to stay alive. But where have all the players gone? Of course they haven’t given up on this age old game?
The answer is online. Gamblers realize that they can enjoy bingo from their computer while enjoying a beer and smoke and in the end, have a chance at massive prizes. This is a recent anomaly and has happened almost perfectly with the anti smoking law.
Of course playing on the internet is unlikely to replace the communal part of heading over to the bingo hall, but for a demographic of people the law has left a good many bingo players with no alternative.
