Much has been stated in the papers not long ago regarding the bingo industry struggling as a consequence of the anti smoking law in England. Conditions have become so awful that in Scotland the Bingo industry has asked for massive aid to help keep the businesses from going bankrupt. However can the web variation of this traditional game offer a lifeline, or will it not compare to its real life peer?
Bingo is an ancient game usually enjoyed by the "blue haired" generation. For all that the game lately had undergone a recent comeback in popularity with younger men and women deciding to visit the bingo parlors in place of the bars on a Saturday night. This is all about to change with the enacting of the anti smoking law across Britain.
Players will no longer be able to puff on cigarettes while marking off their numbers. Starting in the summer of 2007 every public area will not be permitted to allow cigarettes in their locations and this includes Bingo parlors, which are possibly the most favored locations where players like to puff on cigarettes.
The outcome of the smoking ban can already be observed in Scotland where cigarettes are already illegal in the bingo parlors. Numbers have plunged and the industry is beyond a doubt struggling for its life. But where did all the players go? Obviously they have not deserted this classic game?
The answer is on the web. Players know that they can play bingo in front of their computer at the same time enjoying a beverage and fag and still enjoy huge cash rewards. This is a recent phenomenon and has timed itself almost perfectly with the ban on smoking.
Of course playing on the net will never replace the communal part of going over to the bingo parlor, but for a group of people the rules have left a lot of bingo players with no alternative.
