An abundance has been talked in the press recently regarding the bingo industry being hit as a result of the anti smoking law in the United Kingdom. Things have become so bad that in Scotland the Bingo industry has demanded huge tax breaks to assist in keeping the industry from going bankrupt. But does the web adaptation of this classic game offer a salvation, or will it not compare to its bricks and mortar equivalent?

Bingo has been an familiar game generally enjoyed by the "blue haired" generation. However the game lately had undergone a recent resurgence in popularity with younger men and women opting to visit the bingo parlors rather than the bars on a Friday night. This is all about to be reversed with the enforcement of the smoking ban throughout Britain.

Players will no longer be allowed to smoke while dabbing numbers. Starting in the summer of ‘07 every public area will not be allowed to permit cigarettes in their buildings and this includes Bingo parlours, one of the most favored places where many people like to smoke.

The effects of the anti smoking law can already be looked at in Scotland where smoking is already forbidden in the bingo parlors. Profits have plummeted and the industry is absolutely struggling for its life. But where did the players go? Obviously they haven’t forgotten this enduring game?

The answer is on the web. People are now realizing that they can enjoy bingo from their computer at the same time enjoying a drink and fag and still have a chance at monstrous cash rewards. This is a recent phenomenon and has happened just about perfectly with the ban on smoking.

Of course playing online is unlikely to replace the social aspect of heading down to the bingo hall, but for a demographic of players the governing edicts have left a number of bingo enthusiasts with little alternative.
